在社会活动中，互不相识的人见面总免不了要自我介绍。自我介绍包括对姓名、年龄、职业、住址、经历及特长等几个方面的介绍，应根据场合和需要的不同来决定其繁简，一般的朋友聚会只需说出自己的姓名、身份即可。自我介绍时，态度要平和，要清晰地报出自己的姓名，并用微笑来表达自己的友好。同时还要掌握好分寸，不要有意抬高或贬低自己，这会让人产生反感，而不愿与你来往。其实自我介绍就像艺术一样的。
自我介绍实际上是一种自我推销，它给别人留下的是第一印象。一般来说，自我介绍时要注意以不几点：
1.平和自信。初次交往，都想互相多了解对方，又都想被对方所了解。自我介绍时就要大大方方、不卑不亢，切不可羞答忸怩、吞吞吐吐、左顾右盼。应该勇于向他人展示自己，树立自信，让别人产生希望与你交往的愿望。稍加自己的个性，来一个个性自我介绍，吸引别人的眼光。
2.繁简得当。应视交际的需要来决定介绍的繁简。一般说来，参加聚会、演讲、为他人为事、偶尔碰面、为单位公关等，自我介绍宜简约些，只要介绍姓名和工作单位即可；而在另一些场合，如：求职、恋爱、找人办事、招标时投标、深交朋友等，则可以介绍的细致一点。
3.把握分寸。介绍自己要有自谦和自识，自我介绍少不了介绍“我”，但要把握好分寸。有的人自我介绍时，左一个“我”，右一个“我”如何如何，叫人听了反感；有人把“我”的形象树立的很高大；更有甚者，一提到“我”时便洋洋得意，这样的自我介绍都不会给对方留不良好的印象。掌握分寸，关键要以平和的语气说出“我”，要目光亲切、神态自然，这样才能使人从这个“我”字上感受到你自信、自立而又自谦的美好形象。切不可自吹自擂，一般不用“很”、“最”、“第一”一类的字眼，这样才能使对方对你产生信任感。
4.巧言介绍。加深印象是自我介绍的目的。自我介绍首先要介绍自己的名字，并对“姓”和“名”加以解释，你解释得越巧妙，别人对你的印象就越深。这可以反映一个人的知识水平和性格修养，也可以体现一个人的口才。一个人的姓名，往往有丰富的文化积淀，或折射出凝重的史实，或反映时代的乐章，或寄寓双亲对子女的殷切厚望。因之，巧解姓名有时也令人动情，加深印象。特别对于面试的自我介绍，更需要甜言蜜语。
例如：在全国“荣事达”杯节目主持人大赛中，一个名叫潘望的主持人是这样自我介绍的：“我叫潘望，早在孩提时代，我那只有小学文化的军人爸爸和教小学的妈妈就轮番地叮嘱我：‘望儿，你可是咱们家的希望啊！’为了不辱使命，肩负着双亲的重托，我脚踏实地、一步一个脚印地走来，直到今天，走到这个国家级的最高赛场。但愿老师们能给我这只盼望飞翔的鸟儿插上奋飞的的翅膀。”在潘望的介绍中，父母的心愿并列呈现，谁不为之心动？
5.独具特色.简单地介绍姓名留给人的印象非常平淡，使自己的自我介绍独具特色才能给他人留下深刻的印象.
谭飞是一个个子不高，戴着眼镜的电视节目主持人，他在向大家介绍自己时是这样说的：“单看咱这形象，不如在电视中那么闪闪发亮，眼不大不定还有点近视，但这丝毫不影响我的睿智与远见；耳朵虽小，更提醒我要耐心倾听观众的心声.嘴巴也不气派，正说明我不夸夸其谈，唢呐和号角的也都不大，但同样能怒吼与呐喊；个子虽然矮小了点，可潘长江先生说过：‘浓缩的'都是精品.’有人说‘缺点在一定条件下也会成为优点’，这话难免有些夸张，但‘缺点在一定条件下会成为特色’则是毋庸置疑的。”谭飞的介绍借容貌自嘲这种看褒实贬的介绍技巧给他人留下了深刻的印象。
也可用幽默的语言，借与名流相比加深印象。小乐是一名记者，在一次“记协”聚会上，由于大部分人是第一次见面，小乐这样介绍：“我喜欢写诗，可写不过舒婷；我喜欢唱歌，可唱不过毛阿敏；我喜欢主持节目，她俩可能比不过我”这么一说，使人感到人颇幽默。
小乐巧妙把自己与名人相比，既显示了自己的才能，又显示了评议语言幽默的特点，博得了大家的好感。
也可以通过介绍自己家乡的名优土特产或家乡地方特色来自我介绍。我的一位大学同学王彬来自云南，第一次见面时他是这样介绍的：“我来自云南。‘云南是阿诗玛的故乡，是个佳丽辈出的地方’，但是大家千万别忘了，云南也是大理石的故乡，相信大家能从我的身上看见大理石的朴实、厚重与刚强。”
